International Partners

The city: Resita is situated in the mountains of southwestern Romania in Caras-Severin county. It has a population of 100,000. Although the area has great tourism potential, most people are employed by the steel and ship engine industries. There are several environmental NGOs, but as a whole the third sector is not well developed.

Coordinator: Dana Bosioc, a 20 year-old student of economics and tourism at the Eftimie Murgu Universityin Resita, coordinates the activities of the group.

Volunteers: Dana is working with 25 young volunteers (average age: 20 years) from the area. They have developed strong working relationships with City Hall, the Youth and Sport Ministry and the Child Protection Direction.

Sample Projects:
1. Asociatia pentru Promovarea Femeilor din Romania (Woman Promotion Association from Romania): Information and awareness campaign on domestic violence, gathering signatures in order to change the law regarding domestic violence. Local partner: Asociatia Speologica Exploratorii Resita (Speological Association "Exploratorii"). 14 volunteers.
2. Asociatia Cogito Resita: Environmental project, information and awareness raising campaign, cleaning up several parks in Resita. Local partner: Asociatia Tinerilor Voluntari (Young Volunteers Association), Asociatia Cercetasii Muntilor Resita (Mountain Scouts Association), Youth and Sports Ministry. It is a regular project, organized and coordinated by 35 young volunteers, taking place in the Spring and Fall.
3. Youth Information Centre, in partnership with the Youth and Sports Ministry Department, Eftimie Murgu University: collecting and distributing information about youth and for youth. 6 volunteters.
4. Asociatia " O mana de ajutor " Resita (" A helping hand " Association): Year-long drug prevention campaign in partnership with the Youth and Sports Ministry, Education Ministry, Health Department, Local Police Station. 2 volunteers.
